The Global Education Conference 2011

O-MUN’s first formal participation in an educator’s conference came in November, when we participated in the second annual Global Education Conference, held totally online and sponsored by the Global Education Collaborative. This unique conference spanned almost an entire week and saw dozens of individuals interested in global education share their programs, stories, research and products. The 2011 conference was even more widely attended than the inaugural conference in 2010, and while the numbers are not out yet, it is fair to say that this is becoming a very unique venue and a wonderful opportunity for educators around the world to  network and collaborate with each other.

As their Facebook page explains:

The conference is a collaborative and world-wide community project designed to significantly increase opportunities for globally-connecting education activities. Our goal is to help you make connections with other educators and students, and for this reason the conference is very inclusive and also provides broad opportunities for participating and presenting. We have expert presenters and keynote speakers, but we also encourage presenters who either have not presented before or have not presented in Blackboard Collaborate (formerly Elluminate).

I presented O-MUN with the help of my co-director/co-founder and the results were favorable: we had participants from the US, the Middle East and even Australia. Personally, it was a wonderful opportunity to see how multiple events could occur simultanesouly under one larger organizational structure, something we will experiment with as O-MUN moves into creating their own online conference.

You can follow updates on the Global Educational Collaborative’s conference on their Facebook page at http://goo.gl/04fZi.

We hope to spread the word about this tremendous resource and look forward to participating in it again.
